Open source

Open source is a way of describing software for which the source code is available and open to modification or improvement. Anyone can read, modify, or use this software. The goal is that each user will contribute to the software’s development; improvements can be integrated as long as they are deemed useful and acceptable by the community.

Open source software relies on collaborative development. Operating system Linux or web browser Firefox are examples of open source projects.
