GAFA

The acronym GAFA refers to the four most powerful tech companies, namely Google, Apple, Facebook and Amazon, to which Microsoft is generally added.

These companies have huge economic power, making them even more powerful than some countries. Today, their activities actually extend well beyond the digital sector and are well on their way to spreading to all market sectors. For instance, Amazon has bought the supermarket chain Whole Foods while Google is investing in healthcare companies and the automotive industry.

GAFA’s Chinese equivalent is called BAT, for Baidu, Alibaba and Tencent.
